Section outline

    • Final Exam (February, 2025)

    • To graduate this course without sitting an exam during the session, students must have successfully completed the following:

      1/ Two homework tasks (one on the Noun Phrase and one on the Verb Phrase) in preparation for the final test.

      THE HOMEWORK TASKS WILL BE ONLINE AND WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE, WITH A LIMITED NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS AND STRICTLY CONTROLLED TIMING, PRIOR TO THE END OF THE COURSE.

      2/ Two final tests (one on the Noun Phrase and one on the Verb Phrase) on key content points covered throughout the course.

      THE FINAL TESTS WILL BE DONE IN CLASS, ON THE LAST TWO REGULAR DAYS OF THE COURSE.

      3/ A creative writing task

      THE WRITING TASK IS TO BE MADE AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER, WITH DUE DATE 15 JANUARY, 2027

      4/ A presentation on a topic of your choice.

      The presentation must:

      - be based on research with  correctly cited sources

      - include visual aids

      - last around 10-15 minutes, not including the Q&A session to follow

      - NOT feature reading scripts or delivering memorized speeches

      THE PRESENTATIONS ARE TO BE DELIVERED DURING THE REGULAR COURSE SESSIONS, STARTING IN NOVEMBER. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE DELIVERED THEIR PRESENTATIONS BEFORE 15 JANUARY, 2027!

      STUDENTS WHO, FOR SOME REASON, DO NOT DELIVER A PRESENTATION DURING THE SEMESTER, WILL HAVE TO DO SO ON THE EXAM SESSION DATE, UNDER STRICT TIMING: FAILURE TO FIT IN WITHIN THE ALLOTTED TIME WILL RESULT IN THEIR BEING CUT OFF AND HAVING POINTS TAKEN OFF THEIR MARK.

      5/ At least 75% attendance in the weekly classes.

      EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE ABOVE TASKS MUST BE COMPLETED FOR STUDENTS TO SUCCESSFULLY GRADUATE THE COURSE.

      Enjoy, and good luck!

    • Choose your presentation topic

      The topic of your presentation is entirely your own choice. There is no list to pick from and no subject is off limits, provided that you:

      • present accurate, reliable information;
      • have researched the topic thoroughly;
      • cite your sources in APA 7 style on the final slide.

      Be as imaginative as you like. Topics in the past have included Liminal Spaces, Symbolism of Colour in Nature and Why Today's Online Culture Is So Dull, Repetitive & Commercialised, so do not feel you have to play it safe.

      Citing an online source in APA 7

      Pattern: Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of the page. Site Name. URL

      Example: Barrón, S. J. (2022, August 15). What are liminal spaces? Medium. https://medium.com/@sjbarron/what-are-liminal-spaces-a0c550aad63d

      (When a title ends in a question mark, no full stop follows it.)

      Presentation requirements

      Before you start preparing, read the presentation requirements posted in this course and plan your work around them. A presentation that does not meet them will not earn a good grade: you will need to reschedule and deliver a new one.
